Intergenerational Activities

Family Worship
Each week, children in the Preschool class through Grade 8 attend the first part of the church service with their families. This includes singing, chalice lighting, and a story for all ages. Following the storytelling, the congregation sings the children to their classes. We ask parents to escort their children to the Atrium to meet their teachers, who will take them to class.

9:00 A.M. Worship
Starting January 6, 2008, we will have an additional Sunday morning worship service. This service will be from 9:00 - 9:45 am, and will have the same sermon and story as the 11:00 am service for that day, but in a different worship container. There will be a variety of styles and kinds of music, and the service will be a little shorter than at 11:00 am. Families are welcome and encouraged to worship together during this service.

Intergenerational Chapels
Twice this year—in September and January—the children and youth will worship together. After storytelling during the church service, they will leave the Sanctuary and gather in the Fireside Room to continue worship together. There is one chapel to start the fall, and another to start the winter.

Social Justice Sundays
This year, we have a whole lot of Social Justice and Transformation going on. In addition to the Social Justice components to the 4C program, each of our 10:00 am classes will collaborate on Social Justice projects for the year. They can feed into programs already happening at the church, and classes can also decide on doing something on their own. These Sundays will be woven in throughout the year.

Thursday Night Suppers
Every Thursday night, we gather as a community for dinner and worship. Families, children, and youth are most welcome. We have a catered dinner from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, then a short worship service from 7:00 to 7:30 pm. Reservations are required for the supper. Childcare is available. For more information about Thursday Night Supper, visit the Thursday Night Supper page.

Game Nights
Every month, we have a Friday night during which we come together for fun and fellowship. Often we have games of all kinds, sports and board games, which are accompanied by a potluck dessert.

Care and Feeding of Families
This year, we will be hosting a series of potluck dinners in which families with kids in specific age groups will meet come together. Once in the Fall, once in the Winter, and once in the Spring, we will host gatherings in which all our families can come together to celebrate and explore issues and questions that they may have about raising children and building strong, healthy families.

Valentine’s Parents Night Out
Here’s a great opportunity for parents to get out for quality adult time while your children are having a great time at church! The Friday Night after Valentine’s Day, February 15th, our kids will enjoy an evening of pizza, ice cream, movies, games, and art. More information will be coming to you.

Halloween Party and UUCBBQ Field Day
In addition to the many fun opportunities we have for the whole community to come together, we have two big events every year which are extra special and super fun. On the Sunday before Halloween, we have everyone in the church dress up for our Day of the Dead Service. It is a great intergenerational service honoring the tradition of Dia De Los Muertos and all of our ancestors. Then we have a huge party afterwards with events and games, with a huge inflatable jumping sliding thing, and a haunted house created by the RE classes.

Then as the school year is winding down and our fantastic summer RE program is getting ready to roll, we have the UUCBBQ and Field Day. This is another huge event with a dunk tank, cotton candy, snow cones, watermelon eating, all sorts of outdoor events and much, much move.

Both of these events are great times to invite friends to church.
