Religious Education Program
for Children, Youth and Adults

From the Minister of Religious Education…

Youth Group on Trust Walk

You are on the verge of something wonderful for you and your family.

Maybe you are one of our many wonderful families getting ready for another exciting and engaging year of exploration and growth. Maybe you are new to our congregation, perhaps very clear about what you need in a spiritual home, perhaps just following some sense that something is missing in your family’s life.

For everyone, we have a very special year of Religious Education ahead of us. We have new classes for your children and youth, new classes and groups for parents, and a number of new ways for you to connect and deepen your familiy’s life together and in our community.

My name is Christopher Holton Jablonski. I serve the Unitarian Universalist Church of Berkeley as the Minister of Religious Education, and I am very excited about this year.

In this amazing year, my wife and I are also expecting the birth of our first child, a son, sometime in early September. We are elated. I will be on paternity leave for two months in the fall, spending time with him and with my wife Lauren, deprived of sleep, deeply in love, and in the throws of a billion experiences that many of you know well.

In my absence a number of people will be helping to support and grow our wonderful program, including my assistant Margaret Sequeira, our other ministers, and many others.

As always, if you have any questions about the program, about Unitarian Universalism, about life, about God, or about anything, I love meeting with kids and parents and families all together or individually.

You can email me at holtonjablonski@comcast.net or call me at 510-866-7856.

Thanks and welcome.

Chris

From the Education Assistant. . .

RE Class in Social Hall

Greetings!

Welcome to UUCB Religious Education.

My name is Margaret Sequeira and I am the Education Assistant here at UUCB. I am also a member and a parent.

We are blessed at UUCB with a wonderful community of people and an incredible facility in which to come together. We have committed volunteers who love working with our children and youth, along with beautiful grounds and buildings which help facilitate our learning and worshiping together.

As we head into this next year there is much to look forward to — we are embarking as a congregation on a brand new way of learning and worshipping together. We have created an Education Hour at 10:00 a.m. where education classes for both children and adults will be offered. We are also experimenting with community play during the 11:00 a.m. worship service. In January 2008, a second worship service will be added gibing us another opportunity to come together in community.

We are entering the second year of our new curriculum model where pre-K through sixth grade along with our Senior High Youth Group will be studying the same thing all year, all together, allowing for greater depth, greater teacher collaboration and hopefully some great conversations at home, too! We are expanding our social justice projects. In addition, we will offer the year-long Our Whole Lives program on Sunday evenings for our 7th and 8th graders.

I invite you to become involved. We welcome your presence here, participating in the classes and activities, and volunteering your time and talent when you can.

While Chris is enjoying his new baby during his leave of absence in the fall, I will be here working with the Religious Education team, our teachers and the staff to ensure that thins run smoothly.

I look forward to working with you!

Blessings,
Margaret
