Community Outreach
GRIP Souper Center
The GRIP Souper center serves hot lunches and dinners 365 days a year with the help of volunteers from the community and its 40 member churches, synagogues and partner organizations.
On the fourth Tuesday of each month, volunteers from our church prepare and serve lunch at the Souper Center’s new permanent location at 165 22nd Street in Richmond. To volunteer or for information on the GRIP lunch program, please contact Ray Westergard.
UUCB also helps with preparing and serving dinner at the Souper Center on the second Wednesday of each month. Dorothy Herzberg coordinates the volunteers who help prepare nutritious, delicious meals every month. Please email Dorothy if you'd like to help out.
Good Neighbor Donations
Each month we share our offerings from the 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. worship services with local non-profit organizations serving the community, particularly the needy. A different local group, such as the Alameda and Contra Costa Food Banks, GRIP, etc., is selected monthly to receive these much needed funds. For more information, please contact Lee Lawrence.
GRIP - Greater Richmond Interfaith Program
On October 10, 2009, members of UUCB participated with hundreds of friends, families, community members, local businesses, and publich officials in the 23rd annual GRIP Harmony Walk To End Hunger.
The purpose of this annual event is to raise awareness of, and funding for, hunger and homeless issues that families in our communities are faced with everyday! All monies raised fund the GRIP Family Housing Program and Souper Center which provide a comprehensive family resource center which focus on ending homelessness: a safe, decent, central location where families have room, board, comprehensive assistance and services on- and off-site and free hot noontime lunches 365 days a year. Each step taken as a walk participant brought us closer to our mission of ending homelessness. We support GRIP in the fight to end hunger and shelter the more than 14,757 homeless people in Contra Costa County.
UUCB is a member congregation of GRIP, a council of 40 churches, synagogues, and mosques in West Contra Costa County.
