OWL - Our Whole Lives
Our Whole Lives (OWL) helps participants make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual health and behavior. It equips participants with accurate, age-appropriate information in six subject areas: human development, relationships, personal skills, sexual behavior, sexual health, and society and culture. Grounded in a holistic view of sexuality, Our Whole Lives provides not only facts about anatomy and human development, but helps participants to clarify their values, build interpersonal skills, and understand the spiritual, emotional, and social aspects of sexuality.

OWL for Kindergarteners and 1st graders
This is an eight session class which focuses on core age appropriate ideas around the children’s sexual health like that their bodies are their own, that all kinds of bodies and all kinds of people are beautiful. The sessions end with a beginning explanation about how children are conceived and born. This section focuses heavily on parents as the primary sexuality educators and the facilitation team and minister work closely with families to help equip them to be more skillful and effective resources for their children.
OWL for 7th and 8th graders
This group meets all year long and explores a variety of issues facing middle school youth. Decision making, peer pressure, how to build and nurture meaningful relationships, substance use and abuse, as well as detailed information about sexually transmitted diseases and sexual behavior are explored. This is a time when kids are being inundated with information both good and bad from friends, from the internet, from so many sources. The OWL program for this age seeks to infuse this flood if information with good, true information grounded in the values of respect, compassion and love we hold dear as UUs.
The assumption of the program is that it is better for adolescents to postpone sexual behavior. However once that day comes we hope that the younger members of our community will make responsible and well informed decisions.
