About UUCB
April 2011
When have you tasted freedom?
Were you hiking with all your possessions on your back? Did you say, “Yes,” to some crazy wonderful idea? Did you say, “No,” when no was just what you needed to say?
Did you face a fear? Break a barrier? Let go of old patterns and habits? Stay on the road to recovery?
Make a move? Quit a job? Start a job?
Were you running just for fun? Or gazing at a flower? Walking beside the ocean? Were you awe-struck by the clear sky and the millions of stars?
Did you speak your truth? Be yourself? Did you read words that expressed what you were feeling? Was freedom like taking a deep breath?
Was it exhilarating when you rallied for a cause you believed in and saw you weren’t alone? When you witnessed people risk everything for their freedom? For others’ freedom? Did you taste freedom when you learned how people overcame centuries of oppression? When you voted? Called the senator? Wrote that letter to the editor?
Was it when you joined your voice with others and sang with all your heart? When you chose your own religious path and found this religious community?
Did you see a job that needed to be done? Link your arms with others to get it done? Did you feel free knowing you didn’t have to do it alone?
Did you know freedom when you faced the consequences of your actions and it wasn’t fun, but you recognized you chose this yourself?
Were you free when your reconciled yourself with yourself? When you named the harm you caused? Understood your self more honestly? Changed your ways?
Were you free when you let go and moved on?
Were you free when the cage door swung open?
Freedom is our theme for the month of April, the month of Palm Sunday, Passover, Easter Sunday and April Fools’ Day. We’re glad to reflect with you this month on freedom.
With love and gratitude,
