12 Steps to a Compassionate Life
Karen Armstrong, noted author, delivered the Ware Lecture at last June’s UU General Assembly in Charlotte. She tells us that we can learn to live more compassionately, and she has developed an exciting program called “Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life.”
Ever since GA, I have wanted to facilitate a study/action program at UUCB based on Armstrong’s work. I hope you will join me. This is an exciting opportunity to develop a new approach to compassionate change in the world around us.
On Wednesday, January 18, 2011, we will gather at 7:00 p.m. for an organizational meeting. Note that this is a date-change from last month’s announcement. We will watch a video of the talk at GA and engage in exercises and discussion. I am planning a curriculum that will run for five additional sessions, one each month through June. We will study “12 Steps” through reading, class exercises and discussion, and spiritual practices. My aim is to conclude by creating a plan for compassionate action based on what we have learned.
We will have some copies of Armstrong’s book available for purchase at the meeting, or you can buy the book on your own. Please note that the paperback version will be released on December 28th, and the retail price will be $14.
Interested? Please get in touch by telephone or email to let me know of your interest.
