From Our Co-Ministers

November 2007

The world is beautiful, imperfect, full of sorrow and joy, pain and promise.

We are grateful to be alive, to be in it, and to be here with you.

Our deep wish is that in community, we draw out of one another our liveliness, our deep inner presence, our joy so each of us and all of us together manifest more love. Such a radiance is contagious and grows.

We’re grateful for the formation of UUCB CHAPLAINS who will support the pastoral ministry of our community. UUCB Chaplains will offer a listening presence, caring attention, and counseling to members. These Chaplains are ministers and seminarians connected to the congregation who want to volunteer their skills and ministry. We want to ensure that every person in the community has a listening ear when they are in need of care and support. The Chaplains will make home and hospital visits and meet with people for counseling sessions at UUCB.

We will introduce the Chaplains in a Sunday Service and on Sundays they will wear nametags that identify them as UUCB Chaplains.

The Chaplains will support the Caring Circle and our and Chris’ ministries. The Rev. Cinnamon Daniel will serve as the Coordinator of the Chaplains.

If you would like to meet with a chaplain, please contact one of us or Cinnamon at 510-910-6941 or cinnamondaniel@earthlink.net (see page 8 for more details).

We are fortunate to be able to offer support and assistance to those in need through professional and trained leaders.

We’re grateful this community can see the impact of our combined influence. Sunday, November 18 is BRING YOUR WEIGHT IN FOOD SUNDAY. Packaged and canned goods, peanut butter and other high protein packaged foods in amounts usable for individuals and families are most appreciated. Folks from the Richmond Emergency Food Pantry will be at the Service November 18 and all of us will fill a pickup truck to stock their shelves. Bring your weight in food (or an amount you can give) or bring your weight in dollars for gifts to feed those in need.

Make it a part of your spiritual practice of gratitude. Weigh yourself and your family members (one family includes their pets), head off to the grocery store with a calculator in hand, and fill the shopping cart with good food. Bring your bags of groceries on Sunday November 18 and see the accumulated abundance of gifts we have to give.

When we joyfully offer our gifts, the world knows more joy. Giving is the great gift we can give ourselves!

May we all live to love and love to live!
