From Our Co-Ministers

January 2007

Happy New Year! We hope you’ll check out and join us in these resolutions!

Resolved: This year I will (more of the time than not) walk through the world as a representative of our Unitarian Universalist faith. I will look people in the eyes believing in their worth and dignity. I will be with them in caring and compassionate ways that show we are all connected in the web of life and depend on one another more than we know.

I will wear a chalice pin or pendant, sport a UU bumper sticker on my car, and grow more at ease telling others how much I love our congregation and how Unitarian Universalism encourages my best self, my well-being and involves me in making a difference in the world.

I will invite people to our congregation and be there ready to welcome, meet, and engage others in conversation to make relationship and community.

I’ll let people know: It’s easy to find us. We’re at www.uucb.org --an accessible and friendly website. Our physical location is a place of profound beauty. The East Bay Express recognized us for “Best God-Given View.”

Our view of the world is profoundly beautiful too. We see each person as worthy. Each person’s gifts are needed to make a difference in our world. Together in community we multiply our strengths and influence the world toward justice and love.

The Spirit of Life and Love is found in us and all around us, in the wisdom of the world’s religions and in our personal experiences of transcending mystery and wonder.

The more UUs there are in the world, the more UU values are lived out in people’s lives, the more good UU community there is supporting people, the better the world.

If all of us are ambassadors of UUism, if we’re excited about sharing our spiritual home, there will be more folks arriving at our doors. How can we be a loving community making space for, embracing and serving more people?

A group of people representing areas in the life of UUCB are leading a congregational exploration of adding an additional worship service. They will research, reach out to the congregation, reflect, and offer recommendations. This Exploring an Additional Worship Service task force is led by member Jean Moore.

We are a vibrant, thriving congregation of all kinds of people, all kinds of families. People in the regions surrounding our congregation have a longing for what we have to offer. We have worship opportunities and open programs easy to plug into. We offer a number of ways and opportunities for spiritual growth, for finding your ministry, for serving the larger community.

We have a deep desire to transform ourselves and the world around us which feeds our vocation to welcome the stranger. Together let us warmly welcome all who come through our doors.
